GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Westminster College women’s volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Frontier Conference Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Carroll (Mont.) on Friday at the McLaughlin Center.
Westminster, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, moved to 17-13 overall this season with the (26-24, 28-26, 25-22) victory. The Griffins have won six of their last seven matches, and they reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2010 and just the second time in the past six seasons. Fifth-seeded Carroll ends the season at 17-18.
The Griffins used 15 kills to hit .182 during the opening set, while holding Carroll to .093 hitting in the win. After struggling early in the second set, Westminster rallied from a 22-18 deficit to take the set with 15 kills. The Griffins closed out the match by racking up 19 kills and hitting .361 in the final frame.
Westminster finished the match with a 49-38 edge in total kills and recorded a .197 hitting efficiency. The Griffins added two service aces, while limiting Carroll to .146 hitting with 65 digs and seven blocks.
Alexis Aalona led the Griffin offense with 16 kills in the three sets. She hit .343 for the match while also posting a team-best 18 digs and adding two blocks. Jovana Sisovic contributed 11 kills and two blocks. Katie Vance added eight kills, and Andrea Christensen had seven kills. Emily Atkinson finished with 41 assists, and Kyndall Kordakis notched 17 digs.
Paige Montgomery led Carroll with eight kills. Elli Graff and Sarah Roshak had seven kills apiece.
The win moves Westminster into a Saturday semi-final match against top-seeded Montana State-Northern at 11 a.m. MST. The teams split their two meetings during the regular season with the Griffins handing MSU-Northern its only conference loss.
