PROVO — Search and rescue crews planned to spend Saturday night on Mount Timpanogos with an injured hiker after she was unable to hike down on her own, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

The 22-year-old woman reportedly slipped and hurt her knee while hiking uphill and was in too much pain to descend. Search and rescue crews were contacted, but in the time it took to organize a response, it became too late to perform a helicopter rescue procedure.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office said a small group of search and rescue volunteers planned to spend the night on the trail and fly back with the injured hiker Sunday morning.
