WOODS CROSS — A man is dead and his friend behind bars for investigation of vehicular homicide after a DUI accident Thursday night.

The friends were driving near 1500 South and 1450 West about 10:30 p.m. when the driver rammed into back of a tow truck parked in a construction zone in a residential neighborhood, Woods Cross police detective Adam Osoro said.

Emergency crews arrived to find the passenger, 47-year-old Trent Hansen, of Woods Cross, had sustained serious injuries, Osoro said. Hansen was transported to Intermountain Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Officers at the scene said they could smell alcohol on the breath of driver David Helm, 47, who declined to speak with investigators. Officers were unsure where the men had been or where they were going at the time of the crash, Osoro said.

Helm was later booked into Davis County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.
