Bountiful brought it's balanced offensive attack along with solid defensive play to beat Cyprus 45-10. Cyprus had little offense to show most of the night stalling on three different drives deep in Braves territory, only to come up with one field goal in the first half.
Bountiful started their scoring midway through the 1st quarter with a 15 yard touchdown from running back Houston Heimuli. The next Bountiful drive ended in a 34 yard field goal from Nels Haltom. The 1st quarter ended 10-0 Braves.
Then Bountiful took over, driving the entire length of the field, capping off the drive with a 8 yard touchdown run by Max Latu to put the Braves up 17-3.
The Pirates countered back early in the 2nd quarter with a field goal from Carlos Valles to help close the gap.
But the Braves defense continued to step up stopping the Pirates on two consecutive 4th down attempts inside Braves territory.
Just before half time, Jordan Hayes connected with Kaden Larsen on a 45 yard reception to put the Braves on the 1 yard line. Houston Heimuli followed it up with a 1 yard scamper for his second touchdown of the night and the Braves third touchdown of the half.
Bountiful led Cyprus 24-3 at the half.
After an interception by Braves cornerback Brady Litz during the Pirates first drive of the second half, Bountiful scored on a 52 yard stike from Trevor Lloyd to Ryan Curtis, putting them up 31-3.
After Cyrpus failed to move the ball late in the 3rd quarter, Bountiful drove the length of the field, ending the drive with a 3 yard touchdown run by Houston Heimuli, his third of the night.
With three minutes left in the 4th quarter, sophmore Kaden Simmonds scored on a 23 yard run, closing out the win for the Braves 45-10.
There were some bright spots from Cyrpus as Elijah Reynolds intercepted a pass in the 2nd quarter and a late 4th quarter touchdown run by Pirates quarterback Dennis Kamakana III gave the Pirates their first touchdown of the night. However, it was not enough to overcome the Braves scoring attack and relentless defensive play.
Bountiful takes on the undefeated East Leapords next week, while Cyprus heads to Highland in Region 6 play.
