SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol was investigating a report of shots fired on the freeway Thursday.

About 8:30 a.m., a driver called UHP claiming a person in a green Yukon traveling in the lane next to him and behind him, stuck a gun out the window and fired several rounds, said UHP Lt. Jeff Nigbur. The driver wasn't sure if the gunman was firing directly at him or not.

The incident reportedly happened on I-215 between 700 South and 1200 South. After the shooting, the suspect vehicle got off the freeway at 4700 South, the man told UHP troopers.

Investigators were combing through the area Thursday, looking for possible shell casings. Anyone who may have saw or heard anything is asked to call the UHP at 801-887-3800.
