HELENA, Mont. – The Westminster College women’s volleyball team dropped its first Frontier Conference match of the season Thursday night with a five-set loss to Carroll (Mont.) in the Carroll P.E. Center.
Westminster led the match 2-1 before seeing Carroll rally for the (21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 15-11) victory. The loss drops the Griffins to 1-1 in league matches and 7-8 overall this season. Carroll moves to 8-8 and 1-1 with the win.
The Griffins were looking to snap a four-match losing streak in Helena after hitting .211 in the third set. While the Griffins hit .229 in the fourth set, they struggled in the deciding fifth set and hit .074. Westminster finished the match at .175 and won the kill battle, 56-46.
Mayra Ramirez led the Griffins with 15 kills while hitting .265. The junior added four blocks and one dig on the night. Alyse Horton added a career-high 13 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Kyndall Kordakis notched a season-high 33 digs to lead four players in double figures.
Kathleen Mulligan led Carroll with 12 kills and she hit .314. Paige Montgomery added nine kills with Rebecca Sweeney getting seven kills and 21 digs.
Westminster will now return home for a Saturday match with Montana Tech. First serve in the Behnken Field House is scheduled for 2 p.m.
