SALT LAKE CITY — University of Utah football coaches Kyle Whittingham, Morgan Scalley, Kalani Sitake, Ilaisa Tuiaki and Sharrieff Shah will attend the funeral of incoming freshman Gaius Vaenuku in Texas.
The 18-year-old was killed, along with two others, in a single-vehicle rollover Monday night in New Mexico.
Vaenuku, a defensive tackle who was entering his first season with the Utes, passed away in an accident that also claimed the lives of Texas A&M redshirt freshman Polo Manaukainiu and 13-year-old Lolo Uhatafe.
Manaukainiu and Uhatafe are the stepbrother and younger brother of Utah football player Siaosi Uhatafe, who survived the crash along with father Salesi Uhatafe, Sr.
Vaenuku's funeral is set for Saturday afternoon at the Colleyville (Texas) Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial will follow at the Bluebonnet Cemetery.
