After a video highlighting a handful of MLS All-Stars on Funny or Die went viral today, it's clear their skill set is better suited for the field and not a rap video.
The vintage rap mix features seven willing participants, including RSL midfielder Kyle Beckerman. Although known for his presence on the soccer field, Beckerman made a case for himself as a rapper.
"I'm super chill, I keep it real. I smoke up the field with my soccer skills," Beckerman rapped in the video.
It looked as if each MLS player came up with his own short rap, and seeing a bunch of American soccer players rap is definitely good for a laugh.
Comedy aside, tonight Beckerman, accompanied by RSL teammates Nick Rimando and Tony Beltran, will suit up for the 2013 MLS All-Star game in Kansas City. The trio has been on international duty for the past month, and after tonight they'll return to Salt Lake City to once again run alongside Javier Morales and Co.
Although the Real Salt Lake bench provided depth in the absence of Beckerman, Rimando and Beltran, these three veteran players will be eagerly welcomed back. RSL posted a record of 1-2-1 during the month of July without the trio.
The two most recent losses were gut-wrenching defeats against Sporting KC and the New York Redbulls. The team was clearly shorthanded, but also seemed to lack leadership in the waning moments of both games by giving up late goals.
With Beckerman, Rimando and Beltran returning for Saturday's match in Colorado, leadership should not be a problem anymore.
Until then, fans can watch the trio represent Real Salt Lake as All-Stars at 7 p.m MDT on ESPN.
