Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes announced the 2013 MLS All-Star roster Monday, and three Real Salt Lake players made the cut.
Nick Rimando, Kyle Beckerman and Tony Beltran — three RSL players currently away on international duty — were all selected to represent Major League Soccer verses Serie A club Roma on July 31, in Kansas City. This will be sixth-year RSLdefensive back Beltran's first All-Star appearance.
"This accolade was not achieved on my own," Beltran said in a press release. "and I remain thankful to be part of a team and organization as admirable as RSL.
The 2013 selection marks Beckerman's fifth straight year on the roster and Rimando's third in four years. Beckerman had a key assist in last years MLS All-Stars' win over Chelsea FC.
Rimando credits his selection to the success Real Salt Lake has seen so far this season. He ranks among league leaders with with six shutouts and 52 saves this season.
"My selection is a testament of how well we've been playing and I'm humbled to take part in this years All-Star Game," Rimando said.
Rimando, Beckerman and Beltran all played 90 minutes for the U.S. men's national team against Cuba last Saturday in a Gold Cup match at Rio Tinto Stadium. Beckerman notched an assist, while Beltran and Rimando both contributed with notable defensive stops in the United States' 4-1 win. They will face Costa Rica on Tuesday.
