WEST VALLEY CITY — Barry Manilow fans had nothing but sad songs to sing Friday when the beloved musician canceled his concert, citing illness.
Police turned cars away as they approached the Maverik Center. Concertgoers were told to hold on to their tickets, with a promise from AEG Live Concerts that the show would be rescheduled.
The show was nearly sold out, according to online ticket brokers.
Manilow's show Thursday in Colorado was also canceled, though it was due to intermittent lightning, wind and rain. Manilow posted an apology on his Facebook page Friday.
"After quite a few hours, the show was finally canceled when the house rigger could no longer certify that the swinging lighting trusses and flying band gear were safe for either the audience or for anyone on the stage," Manilow posted. "The managers, agents and promoters are trying to sort out the details about either rescheduling or canceling the show. We all were looking forward to a great night at Red Rocks."
