COLORADO SPRING, Colo. — With wildfires raging near Colorado Spring, Colo., relief organizations are stepping forward to aid in controlling the flames and assisting those affected by the fires.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spokesperson Dale Jones released a statement about the church’s involvement.
“Local leaders are working closely with civil authorities and other local organizations to provide assistance to those affected by the fires,” Jones said. “The church is in regular contact with state and local officials to monitor the situation. All missionaries are safe and accounted for.”
The fires — Black Forest, Royal Gorge and Big Meadows — have killed two persons and destroyed 360 homes, according to NBC News. Tens of thousands have been asked to evacuate their houses, according to CBS News.
