SANDY — Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan and City Council members will dedicate a bench in honor of Rosa Parks on June 21.

The bench will be dedicated about 15 minutes before the 8 p.m. concert featuring the group “Rockapella” at the Sandy Amphitheater.

The bench will be placed at the east gate by the existing Memorial Walkway.

Rosa Parks was an inspiration to the nation when she changed history in 1955. She was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a racially segregated public transit bus in Alabama.

The bench will display a plaque honoring Parks by saying, “On Dec. 1, 1955, she changed the course of history and inspired us all.”
