AUSTIN, Texas — A rainy day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium saw two members of the BYU women’s track and field team earn a trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Competitors were forced to sit and wait due to a six hour and 15 minute rain delay.
Natalie Stewart turned in a career performance to qualify for nationals in the 400 meters. Stewart ran the race in a personal record time of 52.97 seconds and finished fourth in her heat, just missing automatic qualification by one quarter of a second. She claimed her spot at the NCAA Championships by turning in the best time among non-automatic qualifiers.
After winning her heat and clocking the third-best time in the 800 meters on day one, Kelsey Brown turned in another strong performance to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Brown took second in her heat with a time of 2:05.57 to qualify automatically.
Stewart and Brown will compete in the NCAA Championships from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
