SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Public Safety launched the 14th annual Click It or Ticket campaign Monday with an interesting display at the state Capitol.
A pickup truck was suspended in midair with a strap made of seat belt material to remind people that buckling up is important.
Of the 217 people killed in Utah in traffic accidents last year, 78 drivers and passengers were not restrained, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates the Click It or Ticket campaign and enforcement mobilization has saved 1,502 lives in Utah.
Law enforcement officers will be working overtime through June 2 ticketing anyone who isn’t wearing a seat belt.
