OREM, Utah - Utah Valley University women's basketball coach Cathy Nixon announced Monday that Mika Pinner has signed a letter of intent and will transfer to UVU from Western Wyoming Community College.
"We're really excited to sign Mika and we feel that she will be a great addition to our team," Nixon said. "She's a great individual who has a solid work ethic on the court as well as in the classroom. She will be a good complement to the players that we already have and will make an immediate impact for us."
Pinner is a 6-foot-1 forward from Orem and is a product of Mountain View High School. She was a standout basketball player for the Bruins, as well an honor roll student as she graduated from Mountain View in 2011 with a 3.8 GPA. Pinner was a first team All-State player at MVHS as well as a member of the All-Valley Team.
During her two seasons at Western Wyoming, Pinner was a first team All-Region player as well as an Academic All-Region and Academic All-Conference selection. The forward averaged 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game for Western Wyoming this past season. She also shot 43 percent from the field and an 83.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Pinner will enter UVU this fall as a junior.
"We really like the skillset that she brings," Nixon said. "She's a good outside shooter that will stretch out our offense. We'll have a pretty young team next year and she'll bring us some much needed experience having played some very competitive basketball at the junior college level."
