The Varsity Cup also announced that it has launched an official YouTube channel to provide live and catch-up content for this year’s Varsity Cup National Collegiate Rugby Championship.
The Varsity Cup YouTube channel can be viewed globally on computers, mobile devices (both Android and iOS mobile operating systems) and internet connected TV consoles, such as Google TV and AppleTV.
With unlimited viewing access through YouTube, the Varsity Cup’s channel will bring the country’s top collegiate rugby championship to rugby fans anywhere in the world.
“This was an important relationship for the Varsity Cup to foster,” BYU head coach David Smyth said. “YouTube’s leadership in video delivery is something the Varsity Cup felt was a perfect fit to give our fans access to this exciting championship series.”
Google’s William Mao, who oversees YouTube’s Sports Content Partnerships, echoed Smyth’s sentiments.
“We are excited that Varsity Cup is starting an official channel on YouTube,” Mao said. "Rugby is a growing sport in America, particularly in the collegiate ranks, and the Varsity Cup’s goals of bringing the game to a wider audience and growing the sport syncs well with YouTube’s goals for the sport on the platform. We look forward to working with them.”
