Utah State softball opens a full slate of games this week with an in-state matchup with Utah Valley in Orem. Action is set to get underway at 4 p.m. weather permitting. USU will ride the momentum it gained last week as the Aggies recorded their first WAC series win this season against UTSA.
Utah State will have a short turn around following Tuesday's game, as it is set to host another in-state rival in Brigham Young at home on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
Utah State will be led by senior infielder Christine Thomsen, who was named the America First Credit Union USU Athlete of the Week for her performance in last week's games. In four games last week, Thomsen notched eight hits with three runs batted in and scored a pair of runs. She also connected with her first home run of the season against Idaho State in a 12-4 USU win.
Also helping lead the Aggies will be senior pitcher Mandy Harmon, who put together one of her best outings of the season in the circle against UTSA as she worked seven scoreless innings to help Utah State secure a 1-0 win in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. It was Harmon's second-career shutout, and she also tied her season-best by striking out eight batters.
USU will conclude this week's action in a three-game WAC weekend series at Seattle U, beginning Friday, April 12, with a doubleheader.
