OGDEN — A 29-year-old man was found guilty of negligent homicide Tuesday in 2nd District Court in connection with the June 2011 car crash that killed his girlfriend.
A jury found Shawn Brady guilty of class A misdemeanor negligent homicide, a lesser charge from the second-degree felony he originally faced. Brady will be sentenced May 24, according to court records.
A Utah Highway Patrol reconstruction of the accident indicated Brady was traveling between 95 mph and 100 mph before he crashed. Both he and his girlfriend, Nicole Gear, 22, were transported to McKay-Dee Hospital Center, where Gear died.
Brady was reportedly driving north on Midland Drive on June 24, 2011, when his Pontiac Grand Am veered into oncoming traffic near 3100 West in Roy, according to charges filed in October 2011. Brady overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.
The car went off the road and crashed into a power pole, a chain-link fence and a parked pickup truck and boat, stopping in the front yard of a home at 4304 S. Midland Drive, about 300 feet from the spot where it left the roadway, charges state.
