STANSBURY — It was a bit breezy at Stansbury High School on Wednesday afternoon, and several sprinters capitalized by posting some of the fastest times in the state so far in 2013.

On the boys side, Stansbury’s Hudson Conrad and Dallon Didericksen both posted wind-aided times under 11 seconds in the 100 meters, while on the girls side Morgan’s Chandler Weitzel posted a wind-aided time of 12.23 in the 100, the fastest in the state so far this season.

For the boys, Stansbury’s sprinters weren’t the only ones who dominated at the six-team Deseret Peak Invitational on Wednesday.

The Stallions won 13 of 16 events to easily win the team title with 251 points, with Tooele a distant second with 105.5 points.

Jaron Moon won both hurdles and the long jump for Stansbury, while Austin Slade won the 1,600 and 3,200 and Allen Havili won the discus and shot put.

Stansbury’s girls were nearly as dominant taking first place with 213 points, with Tooele finishing second with 127.5 points.

Stansbury’s four individual champs on the girls side were Maggie Beazer in the 800, Morgan Vorwaller in the 1,600, Kaitlyn Palmer in the 3,200 and Bailey Wilson in the javelin.

Arguably the best showing of the day belonged to Morgan sophomore Britten Duerden. She cleared 5’06 in the high jump, the best jump in the state so far this season.

The jump was just an inch shy of the 5’07 she cleared at last year’s 3A state meet as a freshman.

Tooele’s Alyssa Banks also had a strong meet as she won the 100 and 300 hurdles, both with top 10 times in Utah this season.
