With newly minted All-WCC First Team members Tyler Haws and Brandon Davies leading the way, the Cougars successfully began their NIT march at home against sixth-seeded Washington.

The Cougars won 90-79 behind a BYU record-setting performance from Tyler Haws, who scored 37 points. Brandon Davies added 22 for the Cougars, who overcame a rough first half to establish a faster tempo that led to the win.

Matt Carlino personified the transition from first half to second half, scoring 18 of his 20 points after the break and logging all nine of his assists after halftime as well. The sophomore guard also had seven rebounds.

Carlino's emergence, along with Haws' game-long brilliance, saw the Cougars explode for 57 second-half points compared to just 33 in the first half.
