SYRACUSE — Justin Nelson announced his resignation as the boys basketball coach at Syracuse High on Tuesday afternoon.
“My wife is pregnant and is going to deliver in the summertime,” Nelson explained. “I have some other goals, dreams and aspirations — in and outside of coaching — that I feel like its time for me to pursue.”
Nelson is the only coach in program history since Syracuse opened its doors six years ago. During that time span, the program has experienced its fair share of bumps and bruises with an overall record of 56-75.
However, Nelson believes the program is on the rise.
“We had a great year this year. I was really proud of the kids and their accomplishments. We did some great things,” he said. “I felt like the program is in a good spot and it was time for me to move onto the next adventure.
