SALT LAKE CITY — An alleged accomplice in a pair of bank robberies was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Taumafakava Tuifua, who is accused of driving alleged robber Pete Mafua to American First Credit Union, 4976 W. 3500 South, West Valley City, and U.S. Bank, 4135 S. Redwood, Taylorsville, on Feb. 2.
Police say Mafua also robbed two banks a day earlier, Zions Bank, 8375 W. 3500 South, Magna, and First Utah Bank, 4900 W. 3500 South, West Valley City.
According to the charges, Tuifua, 18, of West Valley City, admitted he knew Mafua had entered American First Credit Union to steal money, but also told police he was only 50 percent sure Mafua would commit robbery again at the second location.
Police say the two men stole slightly more than $3,000 in the Feb. 2 robberies. Tuifua has not been charged for the robberies that occurred Feb. 1.
