LEHI — An Alpine School District elementary teacher has received a mathematics award.
The Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics has named Kinna Harris recipient of the Karl Jones Award as Utah’s outstanding mathematics educator of the year.
One of Harris’ methods is providing multiple experiences for students to become successful through games and exploration. She also believes in building a strong foundation of number sense in second grade.
“Like most educators, I believe that all children can learn. Some catch on quickly, and for those kids, I promote deeper thinking," said Harris, who teaches at Sego Lily Elementary School. "For those who struggle, we celebrate all of the baby steps. My students know that it is OK to make a mistake and that it is through perseverance we all learn and grow."
