SALT LAKE CITY — A woman who police say defecated on a FrontRunner train Friday morning has been banned from riding for a month.
The incident happened on a northbound train from Utah County about 6:30 a.m. UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said a homeless woman, who was in a wheelchair but apparently still able to get up, got up from her chair and left a mess on the train.
Officers got on the train with the woman at American Fork and supervised her until she reached her final destination in Salt Lake City. She was reportedly headed to the homeless shelter, Carpenter said.
The woman was cited for disorderly conduct, not paying for a train ticket, and banned from riding for 30 days.
Once the train made its final stop it was taken out of service, which it was scheduled to do regardless of the incident, Carpenter said. A contracted cleaning service was called to clean the train car that the incident occurred in, which was now considered a biohazard area, he said. The carpet was completely removed and replaced as were any foul odors.
