SANDY — Former Alta High School quarterback Jordan Brown, a 5A all-state selection, has accepted a scholarship offer to play for Utah State, he announced Wednesday.
Brown, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback who walked on and grayshirted at BYU after high school, will enroll at USU this week and be awarded a scholarship for the 2013 season. He passed for more than 2,800 yards his senior year at Alta and helped lead the school to a state basketball championship as a guard.
Brown received the offer from former coach Gary Andersen, which was honored by his replacement, Matt Wells. BYU did not have a scholarship available for Brown upon his return from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Santiago, Chile the first week of December 2012. He did speak to BYU offensive coach Brandon Doman the week of the USU offer.
"I have a unique situation that I can take advantage of and I'm excited to be playing for the Aggies," he said. "I'm heading up there this week."
