SALT LAKE CITY — Police are working to preempt a possible increase in criminal activity following the reopening of North Temple.
The Salt Lake City Police Department reports that since Monday it has made 11 felony and 16 misdemeanor arrests, and has issued 26 traffic and four jaywalking citations. Officers also have issued eight warnings for traffic violations.
Police are working to identify frequent offenders, discourage narcotic and prostitution traffic, and increase safety.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank said increased criminal activity is a possibility in the wake of the three-year closure.
"The operation this week makes it to clear to residents and businesses that we support them and will not tolerate those who would take advantage of the neighborhood," Burbank said.
Suspicious activity can be reported confidentially via text message to CRIMES (274637). Begin text messages with the phrase "TIPSLCPD." A free "TipSubmit" app also is available in the Android Market or Apple App Store.
