WEST VALLEY CITY — A man who police say fired several rounds at officers during a three-hour standoff at his home was taken into custody Thursday evening.
Wayne Parry, 43, was taken into custody about 5 p.m., surrendering to police and receiving medical attention for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his lower jaw. No other injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
About 1:40 p.m., West Valley City police and SWAT were called to 3189 S. Cantwell St., where they had responded to a related domestic dispute earlier in the day, on a report of shots fired.
West Valley City Deputy Police Chief Mike Powell said there is a history of domestic incidents at the home.
Additional shots were fired as officers arrived on scene, prompting the evacuation of the immediate neighborhood and a precautionary lockdown of nearby schools, police said. Initial attempts to communicate with the gunman were unsuccessful, and additional shots were fired — some in the direction of officers, police said.
Officers did not return fire. The man was believed to be alone in the home, Powell said.
Upon his surrender, Parry was transported to an area hospital.
