San Jose State quarterback David Fales threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a 20-7 halftime lead over the BYU Cougars.
The vaunted Cougar defense was unable to stop the Spartans' passing attack, ranked ninth in the nation entering tonight's game.
San Jose State scored touchdowns on each of its three opening drives, including a 51-yard completion from Fales to Noel Grigsby less than two minutes into the game.
The Cougars scored on their first drive of the game as well, with quarterback Riley Nelson leading a nine-play, 79-yard drive. Running back Jamaal Williams finished the drive with a 16-yard option carry into the end zone.
After that, though, BYU struggled to move the ball at all, tallying only 140 yards of total offense.
