LOGAN — A domesticated African spurred tortoise escaped from his home and took a stroll Monday. It made it about half a block before police and animal control "impounded" him.
Logan Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis said officers responded to 200 North and 250 East and located the meandering reptile.
"It was an extremely large turtle," Curtis chuckled. "We have since found out it's 21 years old and weighs in at 125 pounds."
The tortoise seemed friendly and used to people, Curtis said.
Two animal control officers managed to heft the tortoise into a truck and deliver him to the zoo for holding. The tortoise was claimed about an hour later by his owner, Curtis Baird.
