DRAPER — A 16-year-old boy with bone cancer is getting a little help Saturday morning.
A fundraiser and 5K are being held at South Mountain Park, 657 Vestry Road, to help Porter Thorkelson, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer nine months ago.
Porter's father took him to the hospital when he noticed what appeared to be abnormal swelling on the boy's ankle. X-rays revealed bone cancer in Porter's lower right leg. He has since had to have the leg amputated.
Besides the 5K, the "Porter Strong" event, which is sponsored by the nonprofit group Anything for a Friend, will feature a silent auction and balloon launch.
