RIVERTON — Hazmat crews evacuated a Walmart on Saturday afternoon after a pepper spray-like irritant was released in the store, police said.
An unknown irritant was released into Walmart at 13502 S. Hamilton View Road about 4:15 p.m., forcing shoppers to evacuate. Emergency crews responded and treated 80 people for respiratory problems that resemble a reaction to pepper spray.
One woman and a child were taken to the hospital. Both were in stable condition, police said.
Police are looking for two men and a woman they believe were involved in the release of the chemical. Police have released surveillance photos of the three people.
Anyone who was at the store and is still experiencing symptoms is advised to shower. If the symptoms don't go away, seek medical attention.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 801-743-7000.
