SALT LAKE CITY — Multiple charges were filed in 3rd District Court Friday against a man who led police on a high speed chase that ended in an accident.

Eduardo Lopez, 28, of Midvale, is charged with two counts of failure to stop for an officer, both class A misdemeanors, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving, which are class B misdemeanors.

According to an affidavit, Lopez attempted to flee when police signaled for him to stop after he almost hit an officer's car on Sept. 10. The officer attempted to follow Lopez, but stopped when the suspect passed speeds of 100 mph.

Lopez rolled his car at about 5400 S. Redwood Road, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, according to the charging documents. K-9 officers located him, and he was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Court documents state Lopez told police he had been drinking and had tried to escape arrest.
