FARMINGTON — A man accused of killing his mother and stuffing her body in a freezer is now competent to stand trial, a judge decided Monday.
Second District Judge John Morris found Jeremy Jacob Hauck, 23, has been restored to competency. A three day bench trial was scheduled to begin Dec. 19.
Hauck is accused of shooting his mother, Laura Hauck, 52, on Aug. 5, 2006, in their Bountiful condominium and slitting her throat. Jeremy Hauck was 18 when he allegedly committed the crime. He is accused of putting his mother's body in a freezer before fleeing the state. Hauck was arrested in Montana.
Defense attorney Todd Utzinger has said for many years that he plans to seek an insanity defense if his client became competent to stand trial.
