SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 22nd Westminster College women's soccer team had its season-opening four-game winning streak snapped with a 4-0 loss at No. 10 Westmont (Calif.) Friday evening. The NAIA had tabbed this contest as the game of the week.
The game was played even through the opening 45 minutes and went to halftime with the score level at 0-0. Westmont (2-1-1) would take the 1-0 lead in the 49th minute as Ashley Correa finished off a double assist from Kaci Mexico and Jenny Martinez. Aolani Rueff would add the second goal when she finished a shot from inside the penalty area from a pass by Ashley Correa in the 55th minute.
The lead would reach 3-0 in the 61st minute as Martinez headed in a corner kick by Correa. Katie Moyer would tally the final goal in the 81st minute with a header into the top left corner off a ball played in by Angela Brown.
Westminster (4-1) was outshot in the contest 24-5 and only had one shot on goal. Camille Cooper attempted two of those shots and had the only one on frame. Dayna Winter-Nolte suffered the loss in goal allowing all four goals while making 10 stops.
The Griffins look to bounce back on Sunday when they face Marymount (Calif.) in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. That game is slated for an 11 a.m. opening kick.
