SOUTH SALT LAKE — United Way of Salt Lake has teamed up with South Salt Lake for a free community event Saturday aimed at getting kids and families off the couch and in the sunshine.
"Come Together South Salt Lake" invites children of all ages to traverse a series of exercises, including jumping rope, running through tires, chalk drawing and a climbing wall. At the end of the course, children will receive a free T-shirt.
The Fun Run is part United Way and South Salt Lake's efforts to combat obesity in the city. Recent statistics found that 57 percent of the population is overweight or obese, while 30 percent of residents are in poor heath and 17 percent have diabetes.
After the Fun Run, families are invited to enjoy the other events, including a classic car show, farmers market, arts festival and a Granite High School alumni lunch.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Granite High School, 3305 S. 500 East.
Participants can register for the Fun Run at www.uw.org, by calling Christina DeVore at 801-736-7787 or at 8 a.m. the day of the race at Granite High.
