MIDVALE — Midvale Middle School has become the second middle school in the state to be named an International Baccalaureate World School, Canyons School District officials announced Thursday.
The district received an authorization to offer the IB Middle Years Programme after nearly four years of preparations, applications and evaluations, officials said.
"This is a school wide, international program that provides a foundation for all of our students to be successful wherever they go," Midvale Principal Paula Logan said in a prepared statement. "It's something about which our students and faculty can say, we worked hard, and were able to achieve this together."
The International Baccalaureate is an educational foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the organization, the Middle Years Programme provides a challenging academic framework that encourages critical and reflective thinking. All students at a participating middle school become part of the program, which also serves as a foundation for students who elect to take part in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at the high school level.
