Young people in the United States are raising money from lemonade stands to 5Ks in an effort to help girls in developing world countries. Through the nonprofit organization She's the First, those girls in developing countries have a chance to become leaders, according to Mashable.
This year, She's the First plans to help about 300 females in developing world countries, according to a video on Mashable. This is up from 36 girls sponsored in 2010 when the organization began.
These girls in developing countries are already taking steps to succeed by being involved in leadership classes or establishing career goals, said Christen Brandt, director of international operations at She's the First to Mashable. The organization steps in and helps pay for the cost of food, room or schooling for the sponsored girls.
The organization also helps young people in the United States become aware of other places around them.
