With Utah's season opener at home against Utah State just three days away, the Utes' depth chart is taking shape. Utah returns six starters on offense and six more on the defensive side of the ball.
While starting quarterback Travis Wilson is a sophomore, he is surrounded by several veterans on offense, including junior wide receiver Dres Anderson, junior tight end Jake Murphy, senior running back Kelvin York and three upperclassmen starters on the offensive line. The Utes are expected to start two sophomores — Jeremiah Poutasi and Siaosi Aiono — at the tackle positions.
Defensively, Utah's front seven is full of upperclassmen, led by senior defensive end Trevor Reilly, as well as senior tackles Tenny Palepoi and LT Tuipulotu. At cornerback, freshman Justin Thomas is expected to see playing time in a defensive backfield full of new faces.
