COLORADO SPRINGS — A.J. Schugel pitched six shutout innings to help lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Wednesday afternoon.
Schugel (4-4) picked up his third consecutive victory, as he allowed four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the third, as John Hester singled and two outs later, advanced to second on a walk to Andrew Romine and scored on a single by Luis Jimenez.
Salt Lake extended its lead to 3-0 in the seventh on two-out RBI singles by Matt Long and Romine.
The Sky Sox got on the board in the seventh and had the bases loaded with one out before Jeremy Berg got out of the jam by getting Charlie Blackmon to pop out and Josh Rutledge to strike out.
With two outs in the ninth, the Sky Sox strung together three straight singles to make it a 3-2 game, but Ryan Brasier earned his seventh save by getting Matt McBride to ground into a game-ending fielder's choice.
Jimenez led the Bees with two hits and one run batted in, as Salt Lake has won two out of three in the series and 10 of its last 13 games overall.
