SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento scored six runs over the first two innings and then held on, as the River Cats edged the Salt Lake Bees 6-5 on Thursday night.
Sacramento grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first and then put up five more runs in the second with five hits, two walks and three Salt Lake errors. Brad Hawpe's RBI single in the fourth made it 6-1 and the Bees had runners at first and third with no outs, but Sacramento starter Sonny Gray fanned the next three batters.
In the eighth, two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Matt Young, who drilled a 2-0 pitch into the right field bullpen for a grand slam to bring the Bees to within one run, but the River Cats' bullpen retired the final four batters to hold on to the lead.
Salt Lake starter Orangel Arenas (1-3) did not get out of the second inning. He allowed six runs on six hits with four walks and one strikeout.
