EPHRAIM — Snow College freshman left fielder Ally McAfee was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Badgers' four-game softball series this past weekend against the visiting Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada. McAfee (Woods Cross HS, Bountiful) was a spark plug for the Badgers as they took three wins in a tight four-game series which allowed Snow to take over third place in the SWAC from CSN. Snow won by scores of 4-1, 4-3 and 7-6, losing Game 3 in a 1-0 pitchers' duel.
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2 of the series, McAfee tripled to the right field corner to drive in the tying run and then scored the winning run when teammate Katie Greenberg singled her home.
McAfee finished the series with seven hits in 13 at-bats (.538 BA), with 3 triples, 2 RBI, 2 walks, 4 stolen bases and scored 3 runs. McAfee got on base 9 of her 15 times at the plate (.600 OBP). McAfee is hitting .346 for the Badgers this season.
"Ally did everything you want from your hitter in the number two slot," said Snow College head coach Chad Larsen. "She moved runners when we needed them moved, she would steal a base when we needed it, and her three triples in the series came at key moments."
As the SWAC Player of the Week, McAfee is automatically nominated for consideration as the NJCAA National Player of the Week which will be announced on Wednesday.
