Mike Brannan, an all-American golfer for BYU and a regular on the PGA Tour, passed away Tuesday at the age of 57 after a battle with cancer.
Brannan played for coach Karl Tucker on some of BYU's best teams in the 1970s, including the national runner-up team in 1976. He was a member of the Walker Cup team in 1978. After turning professional and had four Top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in the 1980s and played in U.S. Open three times as well as the Masters before regaining his amateur status later in the decade.
As an amateur he was one of the top golfers in California. He won the California State Amateur Championship in 1973 and 1974 and won several titles in his later years including the Northern California Senior Championship just nine months ago.
