On a busy Tuesday night of high school basketball, Maple Mountain's upset of Timpview on the boys side and then Snow Canyon's win over Desert Hills on the girls side highlight the action:

Boys basketball

REGION 8

MAPLE MOUNTAIN 50, TIMPVIEW 40: Josh Phelps scored 17 points and Kade Poulsen chipped in with 13 as visiting Maple Mountain stunned Timpview, handing the T-Birds their first loss of the year.

PROVO 50, MOUNTAIN VIEW 38: Brian Carter led three Provo players in double figures with 15 points, as the Bulldogs used a 16-6 run in the second quarter to take control of the game for a region victory.

OREM 73, SALEM HILLS 45: Dalton Nixon scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Orem rolled past Salem Hills to improve to 2-0 in league play. Quinn Peters added 17 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Tigers.

SPRINGVILLE 63, TIMPANOGOS 60: Springville entered Timpanogos with a perfect record and emerged with a narrow overtime victory to stay undefeated. Four players scored in double figures for the Red Devils led by Bradley Kitchen who scored 18 points.

REGION 10

PARK CITY 39, JUAN DIEGO 38: Ryan Sherman made the go-ahead bucket to seal the win for Park City in the last 17 seconds of the game. Gabe Colosimo was the leading scorer for Juan Diego with 15 points.

UNION 62, UINTAH 37: Stephen Merrell led all scorers with 18 points, while Jona Wood added 13 points to help Union cruise past Uintah in region play.

REGION 12

SPANISH FORK 62, JUAB 49: Ty Henry scored 14 points to lead Spanish Fork to the region win over Juab. In the loss, Kaden Kelson scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers.

NONREGION

WOODS CROSS 62, COPPER HILLS 51: Felipo Mokofisi, Skylar Farnes and Hayden Grant all scored in double-digits in the Woods Cross win over Copper Hills. Darius Maluia scored 16 points in the loss.

ROY 52, SKYLINE 35: Brekkott Chapman carried Roy in its road victory as he scored 29 points. Chapman hit two 3-pointers and went 11 of 12 from the line.

WEBER 71, BONNEVILLE 53: Weber came up with a victory on the road as it made 18 free throws compared to Bonneville's two. Hayden Schenck led the Warriors with 27 points while Garrett Beckey added 10 more.

BOX ELDER 49, CLEARFIELD 44: Shad Watson finished with 15 points and Tyler Bate added a dozen points to help Box Elder earn the nonregion victory at home. The Bees managed to go 17 for 18 from the free throw line in the win.

EAST 69, HERRIMAN 68: Down 22 points to start the fourth quarter, East came back to secure the home win over Herriman. Parker Van Dyke, scoring 36 points, made two free throws with four seconds left to give East its first lead in the game.

Girls basketball

REGION 1

LAYTON 51, WEBER 43: Livia Treseder led the Lancers to a win in their region opener with 17 points. Erin Reichle led the Warriors with 22 points, including three 3-point shots.

FREMONT 70, SYRACUSE 54: The Silver Wolves established an early lead and then withheld the Syracuse rally to hang on for the victory. Amanda Wayment led all scorers with 29 points and Shleby Molen added 20 more for Fremont.

DAVIS 52, NORTHRIDGE 37: Jessica Richardson led the Davis attack with 13 points and the Darts doubled Northridge on free throw attempts in the lopsided victory.

REGION 2

GRANGER 54, HUNTER 46: Lile Havili scored 16 points as Granger used a big second half to pull away from Hunter for the region victory.

VIEWMONT 47, WEST 42: Caitlyn Larsen scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Viewmont to the victory over West. Katie Toole led the Vikings with 16 points.

KEARNS 37, TAYLORSVILLE 23: After building a large lead in the first quarter, Kearns coasted through the second half in the victory over Taylorsville. Tasha Ika led the way for the Cougars while C'era Valdez added nine more.

REGION 3

COPPER HILLS 47, JORDAN 42: Copper Hills eked out a win over visiting Jordan thanks to solid performances from Savannah Sandberg and Yarima Gutierrez who scored 16 and 13 points, respectively. Gutierrez added 13 boards to complete the double-double.

BRIGHTON 55, WEST JORDAN 49: Maddy Chin scored 18 points to lead Brighton to the road victory. The Bengals shot 11 for 15 from the charity stripe to earn the region win.

ALTA 63, COTTONWOOD 58: In a tightly-contested region game, Madyson Quigley scored 16 points to lead Alta to the double-overtime win. Cottonwood standout Nichole Kristensen led all scorers with 22 points in the loss.

REGION 4

RIVERTON 77, LEHI 44: Shelby Richard came off the bench and created a spark for Riverton with a team-high 17 points. The Silverwolves improved to 12-0 with the region-opening win.

AMERICAN FORK 50, PLEASANT GROVE 48: Jaylee Shepherd scored 22 points as American Fork held on for the narrow region victory on the road. MeKenna Miles dropped in 17 points for Pleasant Grove, as the home team rallied for a 17-5 fourth quarter run in the loss.

BINGHAM 54, LONE PEAK 27: Ashton Henderson and Mackenzie Bruggeman combined for 24 points, and Bingham finished the game on a 15-3 fourth quarter run in the region victory on the road.

REGION 6

CLEARFIELD 52, WOODS CROSS 42: Jocelyn Jones recorded a game-best 23 points to lead the Falcons as they pulled away in the second half. Halle Smith scored 17 points for Woods Cross in the loss.

CYPRUS 55, EAST 41: Abby Barrett finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Marquessa Gilson contributed 12 steals to help lead Cyprus to the region victory.

BOUNTIFUL 64, HIGHLAND 33: The Braves used a big second half to pull away with the win, and were led by Jeddy Skedros with 22 points.

REGION 7

SKYLINE 63, HERRIMAN 56: Skyline earned the narrow road victory thanks to very balanced scoring as 10 different players scored. Sara Weixler and Sydnee Taylor led the group with 13 points apiece.

HILLCREST 40, WESTLAKE 38: Hillcrest held off Westlake to earn the victory after jumping out to a 18-5 lead in the first quarter. Whitney Nemelka had a solid outing for Hillcrest as she scored 17 points and added nine steals.

MURRAY 50, OLYMPUS 48: Murray earned the double-overtime victory in an intense battle with Olympus. The Spartans were led by Bailey Leiter who scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

REGION 8

MOUNTAIN VIEW 53, PROVO 42: After falling behind by seven in the first quarter, the Bruins outscored Provo 17-4 in the second quarter and never looked back as Paulani Tarawa and Gentry Oldham led the way with 21 combined points.

SALEM HILLS 67, OREM 64: Abbie Tuttle sent the game into overtime with a late free throw, and Erica Egbert scored five of her 20 points in extra time to secure the win over Orem.

SPRINGVILLE 69, TIMPANOGOS 56: Springville's Maila Nawahine scored 22 points while two other players scored in double figures. Timpanogos was led by Jamaica Christensen who scored 14 points.

REGION 9

DIXIE 74, PINE VIEW 33: In her first start of the season, Sophomore Aubri Challis dominated to the tune of 21 points in the Dixie region win. Kelsey McCann contributed 15 points in the Flyers victory at home.

CEDAR 47, HURRICANE 31: Tara Shipp recorded a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double to help Cedar slip past visiting Hurricane in region play.

SNOW CANYON 53, DESERT HILLS 46: In the highly-anticipated rematch of last year's 3A state championship, Amy Harris led the Snow Canyon past Desert Hills with 20 points, while Megan Leavitt contributed nine points and 15 rebounds. The Warriors improved to 3-0 in league play with the win, with Desert Hills falling to 3-1 with the loss. Haley Bodnar led the Thunder in the loss with 24 points.

REGION 10

JUAN DIEGO 65, PARK CITY 34: Alexa Mortenson scored 18 points and Monique Mills added 16 as Juan Diego jumped out to a 40-17 halftime lead against Park City en route to the easy victory.

WASATCH 54, JUDGE MEMORIAL 42: Wasatch used a 17-0 run in the second quarter to pull away from Judge for good to improve to 2-0 in Region 10. Rebecca MaWhinney scored 16 points for the Wasps, while Renee Fagg chipped in with 15 points.

UINTAH 56, UNION 32: Erin Elder finished with a game-high 18 points as Uintah built the early lead and cruised to the region victory at home.

REGION 11

STANSBURY 59, OGDEN 52: Stansbury picked up the road victory thanks largely to Erika Alvey who scored 22 points including one 3-pointer. Bailey Wilson aided Alvey and the Stallions with 12 points of her own.

MORGAN 77, TOOELE 28: Morgan jumped out to an impressive 40-7 first half advantage, and were led by McKenzie Schenk who finished with 21 points.

BEAR RIVER 59, GRANTSVILLE 35: Bear River jumped out to a 33-16 lead at halftime and the visitors cruised from there for the easy region win. Kelsee Hancock led the Bears with 11 points.

REGION 12

DELTA 56, NORTH SANPETE 31: Alyssa Johnson scored 16 points including three 3-pointers while TaNeil Clayton scored 15 points and hit two treys as Delta routed North Sanpete.

CARBON 52, PAYSON 26: Katie Basinger and Shelby Cornforth combined for 21 points, and Carbon dominated from start to finish in the region victory at home.

SPANISH FORK 59, JUAB 38: Spanish Fork dominated the middle quarters with a 40-18 advantage in a big win over the Wasps. Alyssa Brown led the Spanish Fork attack with 10 points on the night.

REGION 13

ENTERPRISE 48, KANAB 44: Taylor Phelps went 7 for 8 from the free throw line and finished with 14 points to lead Enterprise to the region win. Kanab rallied with a 14-9 fourth quarter, but came up just shy.

PAROWAN 24, BEAVER 23: Chennin Benson knocked down two free throws with 1.5 seconds left on the clock to give the Rams the lead and the victory in the low-scoring affair. Benson totaled nine points and Kirsten Bernhardi added eight points. Hattie Snyder recorded a game-high 12 points and hit two 3-pointers in the loss.

REGION 14

SOUTH SUMMIT 55, SUMMIT ACADEMY 32: MaKaye Woolstenhulme was outstanding for South Summit from behind the arc as she made six treys en route to 18 points. The Wildcats had two other players score in double figures as they earned the road victory.

NORTH SUMMIT 58, WATERFORD 19: North Summit got the easy road victory as it jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead that they never gave back. Micaela Willoughby scored 18 points to lead the Braves.

REGION 15

RICHFIELD 53, EMERY 44: Sammi Beck scored 12 points on 4-for-4 shooting and added seven assists to lead Richfield to the victory. Sloane Roundy also scored 12 points for the Wildcats.

REGION 16

NORTH SEVIER 76, WASATCH ACADEMY 17: Erica Hallows and Cassidee Shepherd each had 13 points, while Morgan Johnson and Devyn Sorensen both finished with 12 points to help North Sevier to the lopsided region win on the road.

GUNNISON 83, MERIT ACADEMY 7: Gunnison easily defeated Merit Academy as 11 different players scored. The Bulldogs were led by Josie Grajek who scored 13 points.

REGION 17

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 80, LEGACY PREP 29: Layton Christian dominated Legacy Prep as Alissa Atisme earned the triple-double to lead the Eagles to victory. Taneshia Davison led the Eagles with a game-high 33 points.

INTERMOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN 42, WEST RIDGE ACADEMY 7: Intermountain Christian routed West Ridge on the road behind Jennifer Eyre and Anna Clement who scored 19 and 10 points, respectively.

REGION 18

TINTIC 41, DUGWAY 37: Ciera Wall led the Tintic attack with 14 points, and the home team finished on a 18-10 run to seal the region victory.
