SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A University of Utah football player has been sentenced to 18 months of probation for knocking a man unconscious in a bout of road rage.

24-year-old Arthur Allen Bridenstine pleaded guilty to assault for the September incident in Centerville.

Bridenstine punched a 20-year-old man in a parking lot that day, knocking him unconscious. Bridenstine claims the man tried to run him off the road.

The man was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries.

The University of Utah's team roster says Bridenstine is a redshirt freshman linebacker from Kahuku, Hawaii. He did not play this past season.

Bridenstine told the judge that the incident taught him to not take matters into his own hands.
