Sponsors of Millcreek incorporation say we should become a city to stop their taxes from being exported to other areas of the county and instead keep our money in Millcreek. The data shows, however, that Millcreek Township pays less in property taxes, proportionally, than our percentage of the unincorporated county population.
We're all being subsidized by tax revenue from Rio Tinto/Kennecott, and this tax revenue continues to grow with their ongoing property development. This impossible-to-prove claim about exporting money to other areas of the county is elitist, divisive, distasteful, and perpetuates an embarrassing and ugly east-side/west-side mentality.
The sponsors cannot prove projects and improvements on one side of the valley have been funded while their pet projects languish without funding. The sponsors need to either provide some proof for this assertion or stop using it to justify incorporating as a city. The county is doing a great job providing services to everyone — east side and west side.
