High school football: Playoff roundup from Friday evening's games

ALTA 27, RIVERTON 14: Chipper Lucero finished the game 18-24 with 291 yards and three passing touchdowns, and Alta managed to hold Riverton scoreless in the first three quarters to advance in the 5A playoffs. Tanner Valerio hit a pair of field goals for the Hawks, and Stratton Brown put Riverton on the board late with a 25-yard dash for the end zone. Mack Richards had 6 catches for 120 yards and a TD for Alta.

SYRACUSE 54, VIEWMONT 0: Syracuse remained perfect on the season with a dominant defensive effort against the underdog Vikings. Titans QB Brock Anderson went 13-of-15 passing with 243 yards with for four touchdowns, two to Diante Mitchell who had four catches for 74 yards. Syracuse also got the job done with the ground attack, and sent four different players into the end zone. Mason Woodward added 12 carries for 75 yards and a score.

FREMONT 14, HUNTER 6: Jordan Preator scored both Fremont touchdowns, and the Silver Wolves held Hunter scoreless through the first three quarters to pick up the first round victory in the 5A Playoffs. The Wolverines got on the board late in the game, when Mitch McKnight broke through the goal line defense to put the home team on the board.

BINGHAM 52, COTTONWOOD 13: Bingham scored on its second play of the game and never looked back in a rolling past Cottonwood for the first round victory. Scott Nichols rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, while Tonga Manu added a pair of touchdowns of his own. Cooper Bateman rushed for a score and passed for a score in the loss.

JORDAN 56, PLEASANT GROVE 7: Clay Moss had five touchdowns before halftime, and Jordan scored all 56 of its points in the first two quarters. Austin Kafentzis threw a 74 yard pass to Nick West, including a 49-yard heave to Adreil Jefferson in the second quarter. Pleasant Grove got on the board in the fourth quarter, when Colton Babb managed to find the end zone on a six yard sprint.

NORTHRIDGE 42, GRANGER 25: David Adams finished with 31 carries and 169 yards with three rushing touchdowns, and Northridge zipped past Granger en route to the quarterfinals of the 5A Playoffs. Nate Kusuda passed for 107 yards and a TD. Zach Hays hauled in seven Kusuda passes for 107 yards.


HIGHLAND 20, OLYMPUS 14: Viliami Sekona had 20 carries for 129 yards, while Austin Peterson had 17 carries for 124 yards to down Olympus in the 4A first round. Olympus had the early 14-3 advantage behind a pair of Coleman Meier touchdowns, but Highland scored with 19 second left to advance past the first round of the 4A Playoffs. Adam Webber scored the game-winning touchdown pass for Highland in the final minute to complete the comeback.

OREM 41, SKY VIEW 31: After falling behind 17-0 early in the second quarter, Orem rallied for the impressive first-round victory over Sky View. After Nelson Griffiths kicked back-to-back field goals to give Sky View the 31-28 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Jacob Wadsworth scored on an 8-yard TD run to put the Tigers ahead for good with 4:33 remaining in the game. Taylor Camp iced the win with a 9-yard TD pass to Tyler Valdez in the final minute.

MOUNTAIN CREST 36, TIMPANOGOS 6: Eddy Hall put Mountain Crest on the board early with a 54 yard rushing touchdown. Hall would follow that up with a 11-yard TD reception from quarterback Jamison Webb. The Mustangs were able to hold Timpanogos scoreless four nearly the entire game, but Dyson Rivers hauled in a Kaden Bramall pass for the lone score. Tory Netzley recovered a Timpanogos fumble, and took it 12-yard for a Mountain Crest score.

BOUNTIFUL 35, SKYLINE 6: Jakob Hunt led the home team with four touchdowns, and Bountiful easily cruised past visiting Skyline in the first round of the 4A Playoffs. Manu Moses scored the Braves' other touchdown on a 17-yard reception from Taylor Holman, while Garrett England had a 1-yard run for the Eagles' lone score.

TIMPVIEW 49, LOGAN 14: Timpview quarterback Jake Lloyd threw four touchdown passes Friday afternoon, and rushed for another to help the visiting team advance past the 4A first round. Dax Raymond caught all four Lloyd TD passes, and also managed to score a two-point conversion. Logan QB Luke Falk had a pair of TD passes in the loss.

WOODS CROSS 35, WESTLAKE 0: Skyler Farnes passed for two touchdown and rushed for another, and Sean Barton rushed for 115 yards as Woods Cross easily advanced to the 4A quarterfinals. The Wildcats held Westlake to just 76 yards of total offense.

BOX ELDER 20, MAPLE MOUNTAIN 0: Shad Watson connected with McKay Parrish for the first Box Elder score, and called his own number on the next TD with a five-yard dash to the end zone. Kyler Allen scored the final Box Elder TD with a 3-yard run, and the Bees managed all 20 points in the second quarter to advance in the 4A Playoffs.


MORGAN 30, JUDGE MEMORIAL 0: K.T. Tibbitts returned the opening kickoff for Morgan, setting the pace for a blowout victory at home. Tibbits caught a Ben Saunders pass for a receiving touchdown, while Lantzen Toomer added two rushing scores to the Morgan shutout.

SPANISH FORK 26, PINE VIEW 21: Spanish Fork got off to a great start, when Colton Olsen took a interception return 24-yards for the Dons first touchdown. Jason Money heaved a pair of TD passes, while Braxton Argyle managed to find pay dirt twice on the ground. Pine View rallied behind two Prentiss Miller TDs, but Cameron Money caught a 34-yard reception on fourth-and-seven to seal the victory.

DESERT HILLS 48, PAYSON 21: Ty Rutledge had three rushing touchdowns, and threw a pair of TDs to help Desert Hills get past Payson in the first round of the 3A Playoffs. Bridger Cowdin carried the ball into the end zone twice for the Thunder. Devan Judd had three passing scores in the Payson loss.

BEAR RIVER 36, WASATCH 6: Bear River quarterback Kyle Zundel carried the ball 26 times for 188 yards and four touchdowns to lead the visiting Bears to the dominant victory over Wasatch. The Bears built a 36-0 lead before Wasatch managed to score a late touchdown. Jermaine Selman added 164 yards on the ground with his 21 carries.

HURRICANE 35, DELTA 0: Adam Thompson had five carries for 88 yards, and rushed for three touchdowns as Hurricane played stingy defense for all four quarter to punch its ticket to the 3A quarterfinals. Back-up quarterback Adlai Elison went 3-for-3 with 118 yards and tossed two touchdowns in the Tiger victory, one to Jared Edwards and one to Keanu Stevenson.

JUAN DIEGO 34, GRANTSVILLE 0: Juan Diego blew out visiting Grantsville in the first round of the 3A playoffs to stay undefeated on the season. Nick Markosian threw for 148 yards passing and two touchdowns while Chase Williams added 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as well as a TD reception. Jesse Springer helped Williams on the ground, rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown.

STANSBURY 60, UNION 26: Chase Christiansen had a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Stansbury compiled a 57-14 advantage at the half to easily advance in the 3A Playoffs. Chandler Staley and Darius Johnson each had a pair of Stansbury rushing touchdowns in the blowout victory at home, as the Stallions improved to 11-0.

DIXIE 35, NORTH SANPETE 6: Dixie dominated the second quarter, scoring their first three touchdowns. The Darts QB Blake Barney completed 15 of 22 passes for 218 yards, and also rushed for 92 total yards. Andy Appel had 44 total receiving yards in the 3A Playoff victory.


MANTI 38, BEAVER 7: Manti got help from everyone Friday night, picking up touchdowns from five different players in the blowout victory in the 2A quarterfinals. The Templars had 127 yards rushing, with 208 yards passing to down the visiting team. Manti held Millard to less than 50 yards rushing in the 2A Playoffs.

GRAND 48, MILLARD 33: Grand led the entire way and pulled away for good in the final two minutes after Millard missed a two-point conversion attempt that would've tied the game at 35-35 with under three minutes remaining. Wesley Rodda increased the lead to 41-33 with his second TD reception of the game a few plays later, and then Aaron Randall tacked on an interception for a touchdown to seal the victory.

SAN JUAN 56, EMERY 13: Barkley Christensen had three rushing touchdowns, and also threw for a pair of TDs, as San Juan managed to outscore Emery 42-7 in the first half to cruise to victory. Logan Meyer and Bobby Bowring each finished the game with a pair of scores, as the Broncos dominated for the 2A Quarterfinal win.

SOUTH SUMMIT 21, RICHFIELD 14: After a scoreless first half, Caden Christenson tossed the opening touchdown to Hayden Packard, and connected with Porter Larsen for a second passing score. Richfield rallied to a the one-possession game, but Nick Vidrine recoverd a fumble and returned it 11 yards for the final South Summit score. Cody Curtis tossed both Richfield touchdowns to Brennan Thomas in the 2A quarterfinal loss. Hayden Packard led South Summit with 126 yards rushing.


DUCHESNE 55, MILFORD 22: Daniel Hanberg finished the night with 107 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, while QB Trent Roberts tossed three scores in the Duchesne victory. Roberts finished with 140 yards passing in the win. Kaden Moon had 111 combined yards receiving and rushing to help the Eagles advance in the 1A Playoffs.

MONTICELLO 41, SUMMIT ACADEMY 6: Monticello scored all 41 points in the first half, and were able to cruise past Summit Academy to advance in the 1A Playoffs.

RICH 48, MONUMENT VALLEY 20: Austin Groll tossed a pair of first quarter touchdowns as Rich jumped out to the early 28-0 lead and never looked back in the easy 1A quarterfinal victory. Seven different players scored touchdowns as Rich advanced to the semifinals.
