SEATTLE — Freshman Maris Hamblin picked the perfect moment for her first collegiate goal.
The former Lone Peak star scored the game-winning strike with just over a minute remaining in the first overtime ina 2-1 win over Seattle on Friday.
At the 98:59 mark of the match, sophomore forward Jade Tarver (Jordan High) won the ball and played it to Hamblin at the back of the goal. With a quick turn, Hamblin fired a shot with her left foot, finding the back of the net to give Utah State its third overtime win of the season. The assist the first of the season for Tarver.
With the win, Utah State has now won three-straight matches after tying three in a row. The Aggies are 8-2-6 overall and 3-0-2 in Western Athletic Conference action to remain in first place with 11 points. Seattle is now 7-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference matches. The Redhawks were 10th in the West Region rankings, while the Aggies stood ninth.
UTAH 3, OREGON 1: At Salt Lake City, the Utes (8-4-2, 3-3-0 Pac-12) closed out their final home game of the season in style with a 3-1 victory against Oregon (6-7-2, 1-4-1) Friday at Ute Field. Junior midfielder Allie Wisner scored a 68th-minute header that was the eventual game-winning goal. Katie Taylor (Kaysville) and Kaycee Buckley also scored.
WEBER STATE 2, SACRAMENTO STATE 0: At Sacramento, Calif., led by goals from senior forward Ari Aki and junior forward Felicia Sortor, the Weber State University women's soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout victory.
ARIZONA 3, UTAH 2: At Salt Lake City, three Utes registered 10 or more kills on the attack in a five-set loss to Arizona (23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 7-15). Utah (10-10, 1-6 Pac-12) hit for a .247 clip, while outblocking the Wildcats, 14-6.
