Our take: Many articles have been written about members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently. With the approaching presidential election, many of those have focused on one Latter-day Saint in particular: Mitt Romney. This weekend, South Carolina's The Post and Courier took a different approach and spoke with members of a local congregation about their beliefs. The article also includes a Q&A with the public affairs director for the Charleston area.
If Nathan Hale, a lifelong Mormon, received a blessing every time someone came up to him with, "My pastor said that Mormons ..."
(Fill in the blank: are polygamists, don't really believe in Jesus, aren't really Christians.)
"Pastors continue to preach that we're a cult. This stuff just grows in people's minds," said Hale, a Mount Pleasant father and business owner whose ancestry reaches back to the church's pioneers. "It hasn't changed."
