It's going to be a long seven weeks until Election Day, judging from Mitt Romney's response to recent events in Libya.
A bigoted American produces a film defaming a major world religion. That drives some extremist fanatic followers of that religion to attack a U.S. consulate in Libya, killing the ambassador and others. Speaking for the nation, President Barrack Obama swiftly condemns the attack and the religious intolerance shown in the film and mourns the deaths, while reiterating our basic values of religious tolerance and free speech.
To which Romney responds by criticizing the president — our president — for apologizing to our enemies, calling the U.S. response "disgraceful" while ignoring the deaths caused by this tragedy. It was Romney's actions, not the president's, that were disgraceful.
