Class: 4A

Was: 2. Last week: Beat West, 48-9. Outlook: One of the best defenses in the state faces a major challenge is week against Austin Kafentzis and Co. Next up: vs. Jordan, Friday.

2. Alta (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 3. Last week: Beat Bingham, 17-16. Outlook: Snapped a four-game losing skid against Bingham with a thrilling win in Black & Blue Classic at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Next up: at Olympus, Friday.

3. Jordan (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 4. Last week: Beat Layton, 56-14. Outlook: Utah's best offensive team has outscored its first two opponents by a combined 109-26. Next up: at East, Friday.

4. Syracuse (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 5. Last week: Beat Skyline, 30-0. Outlook: After two relatively easy wins to open the season, the Titans face first tough test of the season against undefeated Riverton. Next up: vs. Riverton, Friday.

5. Bingham (1-1)

Class: 5A

Was: 1. Last week: Lost to Alta, 17-16. Outlook: Dropped heartbreaker to Alta on botched extra point, but it doesn't get any easier against one of Colorado's best. Next up: vs. Valor Christian, Colo., Saturday.

6. Bountiful (2-0)

Class: 4A

Was: 6. Last week: Beat Mountain View, 35-7. Outlook: Backed up Lone Peak win with solid showing against Mountain View, but Logan could be its toughest test yet. Next up: vs. Logan, Friday.

7. Northridge (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 8. Last week: Beat Olympus, 33-0. Outlook: Blanked Olympus last week for its first shutout since October of 2009 against Roy. Next up: at Kearns, Friday.

8. Hurricane (2-0)

Class: 3A

Was: 11. Last week: Beat West Jordan, 28-14. Outlook: Jared Edwards torched West Jordan's defense with 4 rushing TDs in another methodical win for the Tigers. Next up: vs. Legacy, Nev., Friday.

9. Brighton (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 15. Last week: Beat Fremont, 27-0. Outlook: The Masina boys are make the most of an experienced line, and the Bengals appear to be the real deal this year. Next up: at Sky View, Friday.

10. Timpview (1-1)

Class: 4A

Was: 9. Last week: Beat Westlake, 28-0. Outlook: Showed no hangover from Alta loss, but the schedule gets much tougher this week against defending 5A state champs. Next up: at Lone Peak, Friday.

11. Woods Cross (2-0)

Class: 4A

Was: 16. Last week: Beat Bonneville, 36-0. Outlook: Following quality wins to start the season, it hosts Mountain Crest in a dandy game this week. Next up: vs. Mountain Crest, Friday.

12. Lone Peak (1-1)

Class: 5A

Was: 13. Last week: Beat Mountain Crest, 23-21. Outlook: Staring at an 0-2 start, the Knights gutted out a miraculous victory at Mountain Crest. Next up: vs. Timpview, Friday.

13. Mountain Crest (1-1)

Class: 4A

Was: 12. Last week: Lost to Lone Peak, 23-21. Outlook: Was one second away from beating defending 5A champion Lone Peak, but was stunned by a 47-yard field goal as time expired. Next up: at Woods Cross, Friday.

14. Highland (2-0)

Class: 4A

Was: 14. Last week: Beat Cedar, 27-0. Outlook: Despite perfect start, the coaching staff wants to see more intensity from its players this preseason to set a precedent heading into brutal Region 6. Next up: at Herriman, Friday.

15. Logan (1-1)

Class: 4A

Was: 17. Last week: Beat Cottonwood, 33-0. Outlook: Bounced back nicely from its horrific season-opening loss to Northridge with a convincing shutout victory over a qualify Cottonwood team. Next up: at Bountiful, Friday.

16. Pleasant Grove (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 19. Last week: Beat Provo, 41-7. Outlook: Just two games into the season, the Vikings are proving they're a team to be reckoned with in Region 4. Next up: at Timpanogos, Friday.

17. Riverton (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 20. Last week: Beat Herriman, 23-22. Outlook: Following an impressive win over Herriman at Rice-Eccles Stadium, the 'Wolves hit the road for consecutive games against Syracuse and Alta. Next up: at Syracuse, Friday.

18. Granger (2-0)

Class: 5A

Was: 24. Last week: Beat Murray, 53-22. Outlook: The offense is putting up huge points thus far under first-year coach Cecil Thomas, but the Lancers tougher tests are yet to come. Next up: at Cyprus, Friday.

19. Herriman (1-1)

Class: 4A

Was: 7. Last week: Lost to Riverton, 23-22. Outlook: Gamble to go for two in overtime against rival Riverton backfired this time around as Herriman suffered its first loss of the year. Next up: vs. Highland, Friday.

20. Davis (1-1)

Class: 5A

Was: 22. Last week: Beat Viewmont, 35-7. Outlook: Following a dismal opener, the offense was much better in Week 2 victory over Viewmont. Next up: vs. Cottonwood, Thursday.

21. Juan Diego (2-0)

Class: 3A

Was: 23. Last week: Beat Manti, 28-6. Outlook: The Soaring Eagle defense has been fantastic thus far, while the offense has done just enough each week. Next up: at Springville, Friday.

22. Spanish Fork (2-0)

Class: 3A

Was: 25. Last week: Beat Springville, 28-14. Outlook: The offense hasn't missed a beat under new coach Kirk Chambers, but just as impressive as been the defensive effort. Next up: vs. American Fork, Friday.

23. Sky View (2-0)

Class: 4A

Was: —. Last week: Beat Hunter, 45-27. Outlook: Braxton Godderidge torched Hunter's offense last week for 390 yards and four TDs. Next up: vs. Brighton, Friday.

24. Cottonwood (0-1)

Class: 5A

Was: 10. Last week: Lost to Logan, 33-0. Outlook: An extra week to learn coach Greg Croshaw's offense didn't help at all in a surprising shutout loss to Logan. Next up: at Davis, Thursday.

25. Box Elder (2-0)

Class: 4A

Was: —. Last week: Beat Clearfield, 41-0. Outlook: Back-to-back shutouts to start the season is a great sign that the Bees are ready to compete in Region 5 this year. Next up: at Bear River, Friday.

Dropped out: No. 17 Fremont, No. 21 Hunter.
